Tennessee was named the 2009 State of the Year by Business Facilities magazine, a national economic development publication. In 2009, Tennessee had 16,700 new jobs and $3.1 billion in new capital investments, according to the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. Business Facilities' Editor in Chief Jack Rogers said Gov. Phil Bredesen and his team impressed the magazine with their strategy put in place for a solid foundation in Tennessee for future growth for years to come. International Business
Diverse industrial and farm products, coupled with the unparalleled entrepreneurial drive of Tennessee's international business community, keep Middle Tennessee on the leading edge of international business. From health care to industrial machinery, from automotive parts to music and entertainment, from whiskey to bibles, the region's rich commercial and agricultural offerings are in demand throughout the world.
The Nashville Area Chamber's overriding goal in international business is to generate job growth and economic development in Middle Tennessee by encouraging area companies to do business overseas. The Chamber's International Business Council promotes economic growth throughout the region by encouraging and assisting local businesses to expand into international markets through bilateral international trade.
The Nashville Health Care Council and the Nashville Area Chamber have conducted seven Health Care Trade Missions: to Germany and the U.K. (1999), France and Spain (2000), Belgium and Italy (2002), the U.K. and the Netherlands (2003), Hungary and the Czech Republic (2004), Poland and Austria (2006) and Sweden and Germany (2008). An eighth Health Care Trade Mission to Santiago, Chile, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, is planned for November 2010.
