How do you gauge when business is good for you?
I gauge that business is good for me based on when business is good for my clients. My business is dependent upon the construction cycle, and with all of the building in Middle Tennessee, our business has picked up. So much depends upon new construction that this is a good sign.

How has your involvement with the Nashville Area Chamber affected your business?
The Chamber has offered me so many tools that sole proprietors can’t get anywhere else: networking groups that are tailored to individual needs (CEO groups, marketing meetings, etc.), networking after hours that allows a casual exchange of business, promotion through the web site and the knowledge that the Chamber is working for small businesses like no one else seems to be!

How long have you been in business?
My husband, Bret, and I have been self-employed for more than 25 years. We have owned our businesses in East Nashville for 12 years now.

How do you gauge when business is good for you?
I know business is good when I see a lot of new faces in the gallery who are visiting from other neighborhoods, cities, and states: it tells me that the word is getting out about the great things to see and do in East Nashville. I will know business is REALLY good on the day I have to go home early because there is no art left in the gallery!

How has your involvement with the Nashville Area Chamber affected your business?
I am a new member and am excited to explore all the options the Chamber has to offer.

Business is good when we have enough customers and when we are profitable.

How has your involvement with the Nashville Area Chamber affected your business?
Among other things, the Chamber has helped us stay stable in the last four years of a rough economy. And we deliver our CSA food to the Chamber, which is good!

How do you gauge when business is good for you?
Right now we cannot keep up with our sales. Our production is so behind that every time we run our still, the product has already been sold. Our tasting room is continuously packed.

How has your involvement with the Nashville Area Chamber affected your business?
The Chamber has been a great way for us to network and meet so many people. We have a lot of events for other companies in our space who found us through our membership listing with the Chamber. We have been able to use different opportunities offered by the Chamber to promote our business.

Fivestone Studios

Chamber member since 2007

How long have you been in business?
Officially, I went full-time with Fivestone Studios in January 2007. Before then, it was primarily a freelancing/part-time business.

How do you gauge when business is good for you?
There are quite a few factors that tell me “business is good”:
  • Are we profitable?
  • How full is the pipeline? How far out do we have projects lined up?
  • How is our culture? Is the team working well together and are folks excited about being at work?
  • Client diversity: We need a balanced diet of work. We are at our best when we have the right mix of projects and clients.
How has your involvement with the Nashville Area Chamber affected your business?
  • Mentorship/education: Through the Chamber, I have been able to participate in both CEO Roundtable and the Propel Executive Learning series. Both are fabulous resources that have helped me grow as an entrepreneur and avoid many of the common pitfalls.
  • Business leadership/communication: The Chamber has done a great job keeping small businesses in the loop regarding trends, politics and other important issues with its many newsletters, business events, etc.
  • Exposure: Through the NEXT Awards and other networking events, companies like ours have an opportunity to connect and meet other businesses in the community.

How do you gauge when business is good for you?
When we’re building new data centers like the one we opened in April here in Nashville, business is good.

How has your involvement with the Nashville Area Chamber affected your business?
Being relatively new to Nashville, the Chamber has provided me numerous opportunities to network within the Nashville community. I’ve been fortunate enough to take part in Partnership 2020 and feel like I have a say and am actively involved in the future prosperity and economic development of the Nashville.
