The U.S. House of Representatives passed a supplemental funding bill this week that includes federal aid for flood relief in Tennessee. The bill is expected to be signed by President Barack Obama, which could direct more than $200 million in federal aid to help Tennessee communities’ recovery from May’s devastating floods. We want to thank our federal delegation for all they have done to help our residents, businesses, and communities recover from the 2010 flood.
Additionally, the legislation includes a flood provision for $100 million in Community Development Block Grant funds that could be used in a variety of ways, such as helping businesses reopen and buying damaged properties. So far, this appears to be the only federal grant program available for business flood victims.
All of this is welcomed news to state and local government officials, as well as those affected by May's flood. According to FEMA's recent press release, though, your business must be registered with FEMA in order to be eligible for any federal grants. FEMA's application deadline is August 5, so be sure to register by next Thursday.
