Recognizing Outstanding Human Resources Practices

Employees are a company’s most valuable asset, and successful companies know how to support their employees through a strong HR team. On June 20, the Chamber was honored to partner with the Middle Tennessee Society of Human Resource Management (MT|SHRM) for the 11th annual HR Excellence Awards. The program recognizes the strategies, leadership and other key competencies that create excellence in our business community.

Since 2002, the HR Excellence program has recognized organizations in Middle Tennessee with outstanding human resources practices. Businesses are invited to self-nominate for the honor yearly and are assessed on proficiency in five areas: HR strategy; HR management practices; organizational learning and development; HR performance measurement; and employee well-being and engagement.

This year, we recognized the accomplishments of the State of Tennessee Department of Human Resources (DOHR). DOHR received HR Facet of Excellence Awards in two categories: HR Strategies and Organizational Learning and Development. Commissioner Rebecca Hunter accepted the awards, and she was joined by Director of Organizational Performance Lisa Spencer, Deputy Governor Claude Ramsey and Senior Advisor to the Governor Larry Martin.

Keynote speaker Rory Vaden, co-founder of Southwestern Consulting and New York Times bestselling author of Take the Stairs: 7 Steps to Achieving Success, shared his insights on improving self-discipline, overcoming procrastination and enhancing productivity. The audience was energized to take productivity back to their workplace.

Congratulations to DOHR on their exemplary human resources policies. DOHR will share some of their best practices at a follow-up workshop in August.
