Fans aren't the only ones relieved that the Nashville Predators have matched a 14-year, $110 million contract for star defenseman Shea Weber. Downtown businesses have also spent the past few days wondering what the team captain's departure would mean for their bottom line.
"He is the face of the franchise," said Chris Ray, manager at downtown's Broadway Brewhouse. "You can't measure the value that he has had in building the fan base in the last two years. To me, it's money well spent. ... I think we should continue to see more foot traffic downtown. Hopefully it will grow."
