Five charter school groups have appealed the Metro school board’s prior rejections of their applications to run privately operated, publicly funded charter schools in Nashville.
Officials of KIPP Nashville and Great Hearts Academies had already publicly vowed to appeal the board’s May 29 decisions to deny their charter applications. In addition, leaders of Purpose Prep Academy, Excel Academy and Genesis Transitions have appealed the board’s denials, Alan Coverstone, who oversees charter and magnet schools with the district, told The City Paper Tuesday.
