Tennessee ranked fourth in a study of the states whose citizens are the happiest, as reported in the journal Science. Results come from a comparison of two data sets of happiness levels in each state: one that relied on participants' self-reported well-being and the other an objective measure that took into account a state's weather, home prices and other factors that influence an individual's happiness. The self-reported information came from 1.3 million U.S. citizens who took part in a survey between 2005 and 2008.

Cost-of-Living
A low cost-of-living is not always characteristic of larger cities with an excellent quality of life. The Nashville area has one of the nation’s most favorable rankings for cost-of-living. Disposable income goes much further in Nashville where the cost-of-living is typically 12% lower than the nation as whole. Nashville's low cost-of-living is one of the many reasons people and companies relocate to Nashville every year.
