Business Growth Series

Viral marketing, Web 2.0, social networking, business development, strategy execution -- these are just some of the hot topics affecting business owners on a daily basis. Is your business keeping up?

First Tennessee

The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce's Business Growth Series provides an opportunity to learn about the factors that influence successful small businesses, both now and in the future. This "Ask the Expert" series of hands-on, interactive workshops provides affordable training for small business owners, CEOs and senior-level staff.

Participants will be able to network with other business leaders in small group settings, learn from experts in various fields, and walk away with user-friendly tools, handouts and techniques to implement immediately. These sessions are geared for all small businesses in various stages of growth, and will provide the opportunity to share and learn from others in the community.

The 2008-2009 Business Growth Series launched in late September and will take place bimonthly throughout the year. See below for dates and registration information.

PRESENTER GUIDELINES

Twice a year, the Chamber invites interested members to submit an application for consideration as a presenter in the Business Growth Series. A committee will review all applications and select six for presentation during the 2008-2009 program year. Each workshop will be a two-hour format.

DEADLINES AND CRITERIA
  • An application process will begin in December for sessions to be held in the second half of the year.
  • There is no cost to apply. Presenters will not receive a stipend.
  • Members may submit three applications per organization for consideration, provided the topics are different. However, only one application per presenter will be selected.
  • The Nashville Area Chamber will confirm receipt of your application via email.
  • A committee will review all applications and select presenters based on experience of the presenter, quality of the content, interest to Chamber members based on conducted surveys and effective use of the two-hour time period.
  • Please note that we receive a high volume of applications, and of those, only four are selected. Your application will be considered confidential.
  • All applicants will be notified of their selection status. Applicants selected to present will be given at least 30 days' advance notice before their event date.
  • The Nashville Area Chamber will choose the date for each presentation.

    PRESENTERS
Only Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce members in good standing may apply. A workshop may be presented by more than one person, but only one application and one main contact per topic should be submitted on the application. Additional presenters will be recognized in promotion of the workshop to Chamber members.

    AUDIENCE
The growth series will be promoted to all Nashville Area Chamber members via our standard methods of communication, such as Monday Morning Report, online event calendar, ROI newsletter and targeted broadcast e-mails. We anticipate 30 to 50 attendees per session.

    PRESENTATIONS
These presentations are not "infomercials" and should not in any way promote the individual presenters or their particular companies. Rather, these are intended to offer affordable educational training as a resource for business growth and development. The content should focus on key learning principles such as best practices or lessons learned. Presentations should be interactive and hands-on to promote discussion, ideas and participant engagement throughout the presentation. If you are chosen as a presenter, the Chamber reserves the right to work with you on your presentation title and description for marketing purposes. Each presentation will be structured as a two-hour morning session.

    PRESENTATION HANDOUTS
Handouts are the responsibility of the presenter, and presenters are highly encouraged to provide detailed handouts of all information covered in the session. If you are chosen as a presenter, please submit all your handouts to the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce for approval one week prior to presentation date.

    AUDIO/VISUAL
The following standard items will be included in the classroom: small group seating for all attendees, podium with microphone, projector, screen, wireless microphone and materials table. Presenters are expected to arrive 45 minutes prior to the workshop and bring their presentation pre-loaded on a laptop with appropriate connectors (extension cords, data connector, etc.).

    APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
  • The entire application should be submitted by one main contact.
  • Each application should cover only one topic.
  • Incomplete applications cannot be considered.
  • Applications must be typewritten and can be submitted electronically or on paper via fax or mail.
