Middle Tennessee State University
Middle Tennessee State University at Murfreesboro is a comprehensive university which offers more than
140 undergraduate degree programs in five colleges - Basic and Applied Sciences, Business, Education and
Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts, and Mass Communications - and over 55 graduate and doctoral programs
in the College of Graduate Studies. In 1998, MTSU became the first public university in the state to have
a College of University Honors. The diverse degree programs are enriched by two centers of excellence
and ten endowed chairs, eight of which are chairs of excellence. ACT scores of entering freshmen average
21.8, exceeding both state and national averages.
While the university primarily serves students of central Tennessee, it also attracts students nationally
and internationally. Of the more than 18,000 students, more than 17,000 are from Tennessee, but students
from 45 other states and 59 foreign countries are also enrolled. MTSU's distinguished alumni include a
Nobel laureate; a national teacher of the year; a former U.S. senator; U.S. congressmen; and recipients
of Grammy, Emmy, and Peabody awards.
