InternNashville

The Nashville Area Chamber is focusing on internships to engage our local college students, connect them to the business community and retain them after they graduate. Business leaders have joined together with Nashville-area college and university representatives to achieve a common goal: a better educated, better prepared workforce.

How would an internship program benefit my company or organization?

  • Interns can complete project work and increase your organization's productivity.
  • Begin training your organization's future workforce.
  • Streamline your recruitment process and fill your talent pipeline.
  • Internship programs are cost-effective.
  • The presence of interns provides an opportunity for mid-level staff to learn to manage, since they are typically responsible for day-to-day direction of interns.
  • Interns can bring the newest technology from the classroom into your organization.
  • Interns can be another source for the recruitment of diverse employees into your company.

Renee Bradford, Nashville human resources site leader with Dell, Inc., said, "The intern program is another tool for employers to use in what will continue to be an increasingly competitive environment for attracting talent. I see people as the ultimate competitive advantage, and the intern program allows us to better understand how to leverage and retain the next generation of leaders."

InternNashville products will be available throughout 2008 and will include:

  • InternNashville Employer Resource Guide: A comprehensive written guide created for employers to aid in developing or improving an intern program of any size. This will be available in summer 2008.
  • InternNashville Networking Events: Students and faculty from all Nashville-area colleges and universities are invited to participate in annual InternNashville Networking Events. The Chamber held the inaugural InternNashville Networking Event on April 15, 2008. With 250 attendees representing 10 colleges and universities, and more than 50 local employers, this event was a successful kickoff to the new program. Click here to see pictures from the 2008 event. This networking event will occur annually, with the next slated for spring 2009.
