Tennessee ranks #5 on CNBC’s list of the top 10 states that are running America's best economies for residents. To determine which states have the best economies, CNBC looked at overall economic growth and annual job growth on a percentage basis, as well as the health of state finances. They also look at the overall health of the housing market and measure the breadth of each state’s economy by looking at how many major corporations are headquartered there. And, in 2023, they are evaluating the entrepreneurial economy based on new business formations.
The study evaluated cost of living, job opportunity, and quality of life.

The WSJ study was done in conjunction with Moody’s Analytics, which looked at the unemployment rate, labor-force participation rate, changes to employment levels, the size of the labor force and wages in 2022 in about 380 metro areas.

Construction Coverage named Nashville the 10th most stable housing market of 53 large U.S. metros based on their national study. Nashville, Davidson, Murfreesboro, and Franklin areas came in at number 10, closely behind the Washington, D.C. area.
The study analyzed nine metrics divided across three categories: workforce and consumer habits; business culture; and financial climate. This included factors such as where educated workers are moving, the startup survival rate, GDP growth and income tax burden.
Clarksville (#1), Murfreesboro (#10), and Gallatin (#17) named 2022 "hottest" zip codes according to the number of people buying homes.
