Business Input Needed into Nashville’s Proposed Downtown Signage Code

The strength and growth of Nashville’s downtown core is important to the economic vitality of our county and region and is a key objective of the Chamber’s Partnership 2020 plan. Planning and zoning processes that support the growth of our downtown are essential. The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce has been heavily and strategically involved in these processes through its work on the Downtown Code (DTC) and now a proposed downtown signage code.

Shawn Henry with Tune, Entrekin and White is leading Chamber efforts to provide input into the downtown signage code through a small study group of downtown leaders. At the same time, it is important that any downtown business or property owner provide input, as Code requirements could impact the operation of business.

The draft of the code is now available; we encourage you or a representative of your business or property to review it and share your comments with the Metro Planning Department.

If you do have comments, there are three ways to share them no later than September 27:
    1) Print a copy of the code, redline it with your comments and bring it to a public meeting with Metro Planning Department staff and consultants on Monday, September 26, at 5:30 p.m. in the Sonny West Conference Center in the Howard Office Building (700 Second Avenue South);

    2) Print a copy of the code, redline it with your comments and bring it to the Chamber and Downtown Partnership Issue Insight briefing on the Code on Tuesday, September 27 from 7:30 to 9 a.m. at the Downtown Partnership offices. Representatives from the Metro Planning Department and their consultants will be there to gather input – you can register here; or

    3) Print a copy of the code, redline it with your comments and share directly with Rebecca Ratz at the Planning Department:

Input from the business community is crucial during processes like this. We hope you will share your comments.
