2007 Excellence in Manufacturing Award winners announced
For Immediate Release
May 30, 2007

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce's Manufacturers Council, working in partnership with Lattimore, Black, Morgan & Cain, P.C., Nashville Business Journal, and Waddey & Patterson P.C., has recognized five Nashville-area companies in various categories as the best of the best in the field of manufacturing.

Winners of the 2007 Excellence in Manufacturing Awards include:
  • Saber Industries for Excellence in Export
  • Quanta Nashville for Excellence in Customer Satisfaction
  • A.O. Smith Water Productions Inc. for Excellence in Innovation
  • Quality Industries for Overall Excellence in Manufacturing
  • Tennessee Stampings for Overall Excellence in Manufacturing

Other finalists for Manufacturing Excellence include Bridgestone Americas Corporation, Dell Inc., Innovative Plastics Inc. and Tennessee Bun Company. For more information on each winner, please click here.

"The recipients of this year's awards serve as exemplary companies in the field of manufacturing," said Christine McDonnell, director of existing business for the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. "Because Nashville is an area with an extremely rich manufacturing sector, it is always a difficult choice to make."

Executive of the Year Awards were presented to Mark Emkes of Bridgestone Americas Corporation and Cordia Harrington of Tennessee Bun Company. Both recipients received the award based on their outstanding leadership and the contributions they have made to their companies and community.

Now in its third year, the Excellence in Manufacturing Awards program was established to celebrate and recognize quality among Middle Tennessee manufacturers. The nominees were evaluated and selected by a panel of seven volunteer judges with extensive public and private manufacturing experience, who scored the applicants based on criteria such as leadership in manufacturing, manufacturing processes, growth and consistency and employee development.

"If you look at Nashville, there are a number of significant industries ranging from entertainment to healthcare; one large sector that gains little recognition is manufacturing," said Fred Contreras, director of human resources for Whirlpool. "The Excellence in Manufacturing Awards programs provides an opportunity for the business community as a whole to recognize an industry that significantly contributes to both the city and state in terms of job creation and economic impact."

Manufacturing represents one of the most important sectors in Middle Tennessee's economy, representing more than 14,000 establishments, 80,000 workers and $2.9 billion annual payroll in the MSA.
