Chamber economic development chief receives international economic development award
For Immediate Release
September 18, 2007
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) has selected Janet Miller as a fellow member of its organization. The Fellow Member designation recognizes a business leader who is a member of IEDC and has made significant contributions to the economic development profession. Miller was honored during a special recognition dinner at the IEDC's 2007 Annual Conference, held Monday, Sept. 17, in Phoenix, Ariz.
"This award characterizes a member's significant contributions to the profession through service to IEDC and/or academic endeavors directly related to the practice of economic development," said Ronnie L. Bryant, IEDC chairman. "Ms. Miller serves as a prime example of one who fully embodies this designation."
Miller is the chief economic development & marketing officer for the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and oversees the organization's Partnership 2010 economic development initiative. Partnership 2010 is a regional cooperative serving the 10-county Middle Tennessee region. Under Miller's leadership, Partnership 2010 has played a significant role in the recruitment of an unprecedented number of corporate headquarters to the Nashville region, including Asurion, Caremark Rx, Clarcor, Louisiana-Pacific, Mars Pet Care, Quanta Computers and Nissan. The initiative has also been recognized by Site Selection magazine as one of the top 10 economic development groups in the nation.
Miller has helped to recruit hundreds of new businesses and thousands of jobs to the Nashville region during her 14-year career at the Chamber. For the third year in a row, Nashville was named the nation's top metro for business expansions and relocations by Expansion Management magazine, due in part to the successes of Partnership 2010 under Miller's leadership.
A native Nashvillian, Miller earned her bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Tennessee. She is also a graduate of Leadership Nashville and the University of Oklahoma's Economic Development Institute. She received the Certified Economic Developer designation, the industry's highest achievement, in 2000.
The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) is located in Washington, D.C. Its mission is to provide leadership and excellence in economic development for communities, members and partners. IEDC's economic development awards annually recognize excellence in the economic development profession.
