Leadership Music, Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce join forces on fourth annual Leadership Music Digital Summit
For Immediate Release
March 4, 2008
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A new strategic alliance has been formed between Leadership Music and the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce to present next month's fourth annual Leadership Music Digital Summit (LMDS). The event will be held Tuesday, April 22, at Belmont University's Curb Event Center, where more than 600 attendees will learn about business, creative and legal issues related to digital music.
The summit's overall purpose is to identify and explore new opportunities, innovations and challenges related to music technology, and to foster a knowledgeable, issue-oriented, vibrant community of music industry professionals. The 2008 LMDS will feature conference sessions tentatively titled: State of the Industry; Compensating the Creators While Satisfying the Fans: The Legal Framework; Can an Artist Really Do Without A Record Label?; Illegal Education; Digital Retail: What's the Future?; Music Discovery: Innovators and Opportunities; Marketing to and Profiting from Millennials: Is it Possible to Do Both?; Gadgets: All My Vices Are Devices; Convenience vs. Quality Listening; and Future Money: Who Will Invest in Music?
After three years, the LDMS has established itself as a valuable event for both the entertainment community and city of Nashville by becoming one of Tennessee's largest music-related summits. With an increase from 400 attendees in 2005 to more than 600 in 2007, the growth of the conference has challenged the volunteer and staff resources of Leadership Music, and a partnership with the Chamber will allow for its continued improvement and reach.
Leadership Music alumni and industry volunteers with expertise in music technology will continue to create the programming for the conference, and the Chamber will focus on the marketing, logistics and accommodations for the event's technology industry speakers and sponsors.
"This partnership is a near-perfect alignment of one organization's challenges with another organization's strengths, and will allow us to better support our music industry professionals so that they can they can create the day's program and secure the best speakers," said Kira Florita, Leadership Music's executive director. "A thriving LMDS will reinforce our relationships with technology companies, and we anticipate a more significant presence in the digital entertainment realm for the Nashville music community. Likewise, the Chamber will be contributing what it does best, by fulfilling its mission to provide community leadership to create economic prosperity for Nashville and its regional partners."
"We are extremely pleased to serve as a strategic partner for the 2008 Leadership Music Digital Summit," said Janet Miller, Nashville Chamber chief economic development and marketing officer.
"With an annual economic impact of $6.38 billion, the music and entertainment industry plays an integral role in the economic prosperity and quality of life enjoyed by Nashville residents. As the economic development arm of the Nashville Area Chamber, we want to show our support in this effort to develop and grow Nashville's music technology infrastructure."
Registration for LMDS 2008 is now open to the public via www.digitalsummit.org. The regular conference rate is $179; a discounted rate of $129 (valid through April 12) is being offered to alumni of Leadership Music as well as to members of many partner organizations, including AMA, CMA, CRB, GMA, IBMA, NSAI, the Recording Academy, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and many more.
Chairing this year's event are Strategic Chair Ted Cohen, managing partner, TAG Strategic, LLC; Program Chair Jay Frank, senior vice president of music strategy, CMT; and Event Chairs Lori Badgett, vice president, SunTrust Bank Music Row; Fletcher Foster, senior vice president / general manager, Universal Records South; and J.
