Young named Nashville Health Care Council president
For Immediate Release
March 14, 2008

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville Health Care Council and Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce leadership announced today that Caroline Young has been named president of the organization.

Young, who had served as interim president following the departure of former President Matt Gallivan, joined the Council staff in 2004, serving as the organization's vice president and the executive director of the Council's affiliate group Leadership Health Care. In her role as president, she will work with executives and industry leaders to foster the growth of Nashville's health care industry, and will oversee the implementation of educational, communications and economic development initiatives to further establish the Council as a leading health care industry association.

"Caroline's experience, leadership skill and strong relationships with Council members and industry leaders across the country made her the clear choice for this position," said Council Chairman Wayne T. Smith, chairman, president & CEO of Community Health Systems. "We look forward to her continued leadership as the Council grows and supports Nashville's dynamic health care industry cluster."

The Nashville Health Care Council was formed in 1995 as an affiliate of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. The organization is dedicated to fostering the continued growth of Nashville's health care industry by creating a supportive operating environment for existing, start-up and relocating health care businesses. The Council also provides executives with information on operational and policy challenges facing health care companies, as well as mentoring and networking opportunities. Key Council initiatives include briefings with top industry executives and national health care policy leaders; international business initiatives such as overseas health care trade missions; and economic development activities with local and national partners.

"As she assumes her role as president, Caroline's guidance and expertise will be invaluable in positioning Nashville and the Council for continued success," said Chamber President Ralph Schulz.

Prior to joining the Health Care Council staff, Young was a principal in the health care practice of the Ingram Group, a public affairs and government relations firm. She also served as founding executive director of the Tennessee Biotechnology Association and director of communications and advertising for the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. Young holds an M.S. in mass communications from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and a B.A. in journalism from the University of Mississippi.
