Member Spotlight: United Way

Who is United Way and what should we know about you?

At United Way of Greater Nashville, we unite the community and mobilize resources so that every child, individual and family thrives. We envision a community where every person—no matter their background, their circumstances or their zip code—has an equal chance at a bright future. We are working to create a community where no one lives in poverty, everyone has a home and food to eat, every person has access to quality healthcare and a supportive neighborhood, and that every child has the tools and resources they need to succeed in school and beyond.

What is unique about your business that makes you stand out?

We bring the community together in a way no single organization can to develop, fund and scale collective solutions that attack our community’s most pressing problems at their roots. At United Way, we bring individuals, businesses, nonprofits and government decision makers together to have the tough conversations, mobilize the resources and make the smart investments, so that every person and every family in our community thrives.

What's your biggest goal for your company this year?

We are working to:
Reduce multi-generational poverty and improve the financial stability of our neighbors.
b. Increase the number of kids reading on grade level by the end of third grade.
c. Achieve health equity for our most vulnerable neighbors.
d. Meet the basic needs of our neighbors in crisis and increase our community’s access to resources through helpline referrals.

What's the best thing about doing business in Middle Tennessee?

The people. At United Way, we partner with more than 100 nonprofit agencies in Davidson, Williamson, Robertson, Dickson, Cheatham and Hickman counties. These agencies are made up of members of the community who tirelessly work to meet the needs of those around them.

How do you stay involved in the community?

United Way offers many ways to get involved, give back and engage with the community through special events, volunteer opportunities, affinity groups, workplace campaigns and more. Through a partnership with Hands On Nashville, we offer hundreds of opportunities each month for anyone looking to plug into the community.
