Position Description / Responsibilities

We are looking for an Accounting-Finance Manager to join our Main Office in Nashville. Hours are Monday - Friday: 8:00 AM-5:00 PM.
Day-to-Day Job Duties:
The ideal candidate will supervise staff accountants and the general accounting processes in the accounting department and reports directly to the VP of Accounting & Finance. The Accounting-Finance Manager will perform a full range of routine to complex accounting and financial record-keeping functions, while ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for the Credit Union.
- Directly supervises the Accounting and Finance Departments, including interviewing, selecting, hiring, and training employees.
- Ensures proper staffing levels are maintained within the Accounting and Finance Departments.
- Planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees.
- Ensures the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
- Regularly reviews entries to the general and statistical ledgers to assure accuracy and compliance with established accounting principles and procedures.
- Prepares and posts general and statistical ledger entries, as needed.
- Assist with the end-of-period closing entries and general ledger closeout.
- Assists in the preparation of financial and statistical reports, including the NCUA CALL report.
- Coordinates and prepares for financial audits and examinations as required by credit union policy, government regulations, and other organizations.
- Assist in the preparation of required tax returns and interactions with various taxing authorities, including the IRS.
- Assist with the investment (bond) accounting and safekeeping relationships.
- Assist the VP of the department with internal and external audits and NCUA examinations and compliance issues related to the Accounting and Finance Departments and recommends compliance or corrective actions.
- Responsible for compliance with all Federal regulations including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
Position Requirements
Qualifications:
- Experience in or knowledge of financial institution products, services, and records preferred.
- Must possess strong working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Experience in or knowledge of banking and finance as related to money management and cash flows required.
- Must possess knowledge of federal tax guidelines and laws as they relate to employer and non-for-profit organizations.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required with the ability to interact with all levels of management, employees, volunteers, members, vendors, and the general public.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum five (5) years prior accounting experience required, preferably in a credit union or financial institution environment, with demonstrated progressive supervisory experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance from a 4-year college or university required or equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the functions of the position.
- A relevant master's degree and/or CPA designation preferred.
