Position Description / Responsibilities
Position Summary:
Consistent with the Christian mission and vision of the YMCA of Middle TN, and in cooperation with other YMCA staff, under the direction of the Senior Program Director, the Aquatics Coordinator will be responsible for the development, marketing, planning, implementation, and supervision of aquatic programming.
Essential Functions:
- Model the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility
- Ensure safe and risk free environment at all times while meeting the individual needs of the participants
- Organize, plan, schedule, promote, and coordinate all aquatic programming; assist with the development and implementation of new aquatic programming
- Assist in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating aquatics staff; staff all programs appropriately and train all staff in emergency procedures, incident reporting and first aid
- Acquire and maintain all required YMCA aquatic certifications; ensure all aquatics staff acquire and maintain necessary certifications
- Lifeguard and lead programs in support of staff when necessary; provide fun, supportive work environment with high staff morale and proper recognition
- Manage all necessary information and records for the development of programs, program participants and program evaluations
- Maintain a clean and safe pool environment; maintain all necessary records for the safe operation of the pool; oversee the proper chemistry and pool testing procedures and ensure proper chemical balances
- Assist with construction - and work within guidelines - of operating budget for aquatic department
- Participate in the annual giving campaign
- Build relationships and interact with members
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions

- Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative
- Must be highly organized with the ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
- Minimum 18 years of age
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum 1000 hours aquatic experience and minimum two year’s experience in direct teaching of aquatic programs
- Experience with pool operations and testing pool chemicals; Pool Operator certification preferred
Certifications Required:
- Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training
- Before start of 1st shift: successfully complete American Red Cross Lifeguard training program; maintain current American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification
- Within six months of hire: Certified Pool Operator/Lifeguard Management online training
- Within twelve months of hire: successfully complete American Red Cross Instructor Training and maintain American Red Cross Instructor certification or YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification
