Summary




Under the direction of the Executive Director, Administrative Manager, and/or Chief Athletic Inspector of the State Athletic Commission, performs duties involved in enforcing the State law and rules of the State Athletic Commission regulating boxing, kickboxing, and martial arts (MMA); performs other related work as assigned.


Job Responsibilities




An inspector’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Attending and overseeing boxing, kickboxing and mixed martial arts events.

• Working in coordination with promoters, event security, and venue personnel.

• Overseeing and monitoring the official fighter weigh-ins.

• Keeping the official scores for each contest.

• Maintaining control of all locker room activities.

• Overseeing all activities during each bout.

• Ensuring state laws and regulations are strictly followed by all

participants.



Position Requirements

Preferred Qualifications




1. One year of experience and/or involvement in the fields of boxing, kickboxing, or full-contact martial arts (MMA).

2. Advanced interpersonal skills, needed to complete compliance-related tasks.

This position will require inspectors to stand for long periods of time, and may take place during evenings, nights, or weekends. Overnight travel and lodging may be required. All Athletic Commission Inspectors must possess a valid driver’s license.


Knowledge and Abilities




Knowledge of: State law and rules of the Tennessee Athletic Commission regulating boxing, kickboxing, and full-contact martial arts matches (MMA); procedure, equipment, and terminology of boxing, kickboxing, and full-contact martial arts sports in Tennessee; methods used in attempting to evade laws and rules regulating licensed boxing, kickboxing, and full-contact martial arts (MMA).

Ability to: interpret and apply State law and the rules of the Tennessee Athletic Commission regulating boxing, kickboxing, and full-contact martial arts and detect evasions; maintain cooperative relations with persons contacted in the course of the work; analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; follow oral and written directions.



These positions are considered part-time State positions with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.

Athletic Commission Inspectors are paid one hundred dollars per event ($100.00) for each night of work, plus mileage. If overnight lodging is required and approved, you will be reimbursed in accordance with the current State of Tennessee Standard Reimbursement Rates, including per diem. All mileage will be paid using the current State of Tennessee Standard Reimbursement Rates.
