Communities In Schools of Tennessee (CIS-TN) is a nonprofit that partners with K-12 public schools to surround students with a community of support empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
As part of the CIS national network, CIS-TN achieves this mission by placing site coordinators in schools across the state to provide school-wide interventions and case managed services for students in need.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The CEO will serve as the senior-most leader for CIS-TN reporting directly to and collaborating with the Board of Directors. The CEO will provide executive leadership and is responsible for the overall planning, development, implementation, management, and evaluation of Communities In Schools of Tennessee.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The CEO will
- Provide leadership in the development of, and the continuous evaluation of, short and long-term strategic objectives.
- Provide oversight for fundraising and resource development strategies, goals, and connections to ensure adequate funding levels and lead the fiscal management efforts for the organization.
- Oversee and ensure the organization meets all national standards and is prepared for regular reaccreditation reviews and other compliance protocols.
- Partner and collaborate with CIS National and other CIS affiliates throughout the state to advance the brand and mission of CIS.
- Lead the human capital strategy and management for the organization to ensure a pipeline of talent and employee engagement.
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure strong governance to include financial, administrative, and business process controls facilitating sustainable growth.
- Establish and maintain close partnerships with state government leaders, including the governor’s office, legislators and staff, and with appropriate departments, commissions, and committees charged with addressing issues affecting children, youth and their families.
- Establish and maintain community and partner relationships to support student programming and advance the mission of CIS-TN.
- Provide marketing and communications leadership to promote the mission of CIS-TN, establishing and maintaining appropriate linkages with media outlets.

- Leads the board and staff to develop and implement an aggressive strategic plan; strong business acumen with an eye-toward growth and risk management.
- Models timely, thorough and independent decision making for agency staff.
- Coaches and motivates direct reports, manage relationships with various professionals in multiple locations with diverse needs and expectations.
- Evaluates data and trends; proficiency tracking progress within a framework of programmatic requirements.
- Demonstrates excellent writing, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Is licensed to drive in the state of Tennessee with an exemplary driving record.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or above preferred
- Experience and leadership in nonprofit management
