Position Description / Responsibilities

Job Posting for COO position – 2021

PENCIL continues to grow in our service to Metro Nashville Public Schools, so we’re adding a Chief Operating Officer to provide support to all areas of the organization. Full details are in the job description.

a new team member orientation plan to assure that every new team member gets exposure to all aspects of PENCIL’s work, is self-directed, and is an opportunity to build connections across departmental areas

a development plan to recruit and engage donors under the age of 30 who are looking to begin their community philanthropy

a plan to train, engage, and keep a knowledgeable a corps of volunteers who could serve as ambassadors for PENCIL at community events

Position Requirements

EDUCATION – Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree but a Master’s degree is a plus
• SKILLS –
o Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving
o Understanding of business functions such as Development, Marketing, HR, and Finance
o Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
o Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development
o Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities
o Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills
o Understanding of ways to support equity and inclusion within organizations
Linking community resources to Nashville Public Schools to help young people achieve academic success and prepare for life.
o Demonstrates the ability to thoroughly document workflows and timelines
• EXPERIENCE – Minimum of five years’ experience as an executive with strategic thinking
responsibilities; experience in fundraising with an understanding of the different approaches to
fundraising at various levels and the key drivers that lead to success
• CONFIDENTIALITY – Ability to manage sensitive information in a professional and confidential
manner as outlined in PENCIL’s Confidentiality Policy
