Position Description / Responsibilities
Serve as a coordinator on a research team that manages a wide range of programs and projects in one of the Nashville area’s leading research and information organizations. The coordinator develops, organizes, implements, and uses data and systems for a wide array of high impact research studies and reports used in the Nashville region by business and other community stakeholders. The coordinator creates electronic, paper, website, phone and in-person output for creative solutions to research needs and projects. Research involves a broad cross-section of demographic, economic and community topics and a variety of research processes, methods, sources and tools. This key role interacts daily with internal and external customers to provide the highest quality research service that demonstrates rigor, ingenuity, innovation, application, and efficiency.
- Perform data collection of economic and business indicators, demographic data, and a wide range of community data.
- Coordinate data content management, print and electronic materials development and other research activities.
- Assist with activities of the Chamber Business Conditions Council including meeting logistics.
- Provide research as needed for Economic Development marketing programs and other needs as these arise.
- Respond to requests from Chamber clients, customers and stakeholders for research and assistance in a timely and accurate manner. Required to exercise sound judgment and discretion in providing appropriate materials or assistance.
- Use research tools and data as needed to accomplish research output. Experience in or ability to learn SPSS, GIS and other analysis tools as a key part of research position.
- Coordinate key survey research and other business information gathering processes.
- Provide project-specific research coordination to internal Chamber program needs as identified by the Research Vice President and the Vice President of Metropolitan Policy. The research role involves confidential projects, data and information for economic development, government and public policy, and Chamber member issues.
- Respond to ongoing research needs relating to issues of local business, business recruitment and retention, international business, education, and public policy as guided by Research Vice President and the Vice President of Metropolitan Policy.
- Maintain an active interest in advancing in skills and knowledge through reading and learning from professional materials and involvement with national, state and local professional research organizations in the community and regional research field.
Experience and Qualifications
- Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited university with a bachelor’s degree in a field of study useful and relevant for community or economic research.
- Candidate must exhibit substantive on-site experience in an academic, work or intern setting that is suitable for the research work of the Nashville Area Chamber.
- Candidate must have demonstrated knowledge and experience in working with data from primary and secondary research that exhibits commitment to professional research in demographic, economic or community field.
- Candidate must have experience in work settings that demonstrate commitment to high quality output and results comparable to those required by research at the Nashville Area Chamber.

- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office products and their application.
- Background in GIS, SPSS, or other mapping, statistical or database work a plus, but not required.

- Familiarity with demographic and economic data sources including, but not limited to, Census, BLS and BEA.
