Program Overview

Our Specialized Crisis Services program serves children and adolescents under the age of 18 who are experiencing a crisis- suicidal, homicidal, physical aggression, or psychosis. The program specializes in working with the client, family, and other systemic key participants to assess the risks versus the protective factors to keep the client and others safe. Specialized Crisis Services strives to use the least restrictive environment. The Youth Villages’ SCS Program uses a systematic treatment model where interventions are parent focused bringing change through the family, school, community, and peer groups; training staff intensively in conducting assessment, crisis management, in-home treatment, and respite care.

Position Overview

This position will provide follow-up care and oversight for cases that are hard-to-place following an initial crisis assessment. This position will also facilitate communication and partnership between the crisis program and key customers in the community such as emergency departments, schools and law enforcement and conduct outreach and trainings in the community

• Work in cooperation with assigned emergency departments, schools, and law enforcement as well as other assigned community supports to provide consultation, collaboration and training as needed.
• Complete follow-up assessments and monitoring needs for assigned hard-to-place cases.
• Conduct monitoring calls and reassessments as necessary for hard-to-place youth. Follow through on providing services for the family as determined by the treatment team in the event of a lag between the crisis and appropriate services being for the family (monitoring sessions).
• Follow through on referrals made for client to other service providers as part of care coordination on hard-to-place cases.
• Provide complete assessments using teachings from Treatment Model that require involvement of all key players to get a systemic perspective of the problem for every client.
• Work collaboratively with fellow crisis team members on care coordination for each case.
• Coordinate recommendations with referral sources in the community to assure client receives care to target high-risk mental health needs.
• Coordinate recommendations and receive authorization from any MCO in order to facilitate hospitalization for clients.
• Assist with other crisis duties such as returning calls, taking calls, and assisting leadership in report and data cleaning tasks.
• Work collaboratively with fellow crisis team members on care coordination for each case.
• Provide mobile crisis response and thorough, strength-based assessment of children and families in crises in their natural environments.
• Working non-traditional hours.
• 24 hour availability.
• Having flexibility in your schedule.
• Working well with others in a highly supervised atmosphere.
• Documentation that is on-line/ web-based and available to you from home.
• Collaborate with adult crisis teams and community consumers.
• Counselors may serve a 60+ mile radius from the office.
• Counselors may be required to attend meetings on their days off.

Schedule is flexible and non-traditional; based around the availability of youth and families served.

Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, a personal vehicle to use for work purposes and auto insurance.

Community Based staff will be reimbursed for applicable mileage.

Position Requirements

A Master's degree in a social services discipline is required.

Degrees that can be considered include: social work, counseling, psychology, or marriage and family therapy. Other degrees will have to be evaluated further to determine if they meet the qualifications.

• 1 year of child and adolescent experience in a behavioral health setting is required.
• 1 year of Crisis experience is preferred.
  Applicants who are provisionally licensed or working towards licensure are strongly preferred
  Excellent written, verbal, and oral skills
  Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  Basic computer knowledge
  Ability to maintain a flexible schedule
  Counselors must have their own vehicle to use for work purposes as well as have liability insurance
