Position Description / Responsibilities

Conexión Américas seeks qualified candidates for the position of Director of People
and Culture. The Director of People and Culture helps Conexión Américas find, grow
and keep talented people. This staff member is a culture builder, talent developer and
benefits manager with the tools to work with staff across multiple locations. The Director
of People and Culture ensures that Conexión Américas has an effective and coherent
human resources strategy that aligns with the organization’s culture and values. This
staff member works to identify, communicate and resolve people issues and to ensure
that our human resources policies, procedures and practices are fully leveraged to
support Conexión Américas’ success. Conexión Américas’ “people” include our staff,
volunteers and interns.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communications skills and must be
highly organized, self-motivated, compassionate and adaptable to working with people
of diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. We work in a collaborative,

This is a permanent, full-time position that reports to the Executive Director. The
Director of People and Culture provides leadership to Conexión Américas in the areas
of: human capital, development and engagement, volunteers and benefits management.
Human Capital:
● Drives the planning and leadership around how Conexión Américas finds, hires,
develops, coaches and retains talented staff members
● Creates and manages high-quality and efficient hiring, onboarding and
offboarding systems and processes
● Collaborates with supervisors to understand staff hiring needs
● Delivers consistent, clear and purposeful internal communication relating to
human resources policies and benefits
● Provides support to employees on day-to-day matters pertaining to benefits,
employee communication, leaves, processes and records
● Listens carefully to and serves as an advocate for staff; identifies, communicates
and resolves people issues
● Serves as part of the senior leadership team to provide advice, influence and
support on staffing, performance management, organizational structure and
people processes
● Leads performance review processes for all levels of the organization
● Collects, maintains and analyzes information and makes recommendations to
improve human capital strategies
● Partners with senior leadership to determine and support promotions and
compensation decisions
● Maintains accurate employee records and ensures that the organization is in
compliance with current federal, state and local labor regulations (including
background checks, certifications, and trainings on Title VI, child abuse
prevention, sexual harassment prevention, etc.)
Development & Engagement:
● Champions and promotes an engaged and positive organizational culture
● Designs and implements innovative staff engagement, team-building and
professional development opportunities
● Anticipates organizational growth and training needs
● Develops benefits and initiatives to provide an engaging employee experience
● Provides individual coaching to develop staff
● Maintains records of staff participation in professional development opportunities
● Creates and manages a high-quality and efficient volunteer recruitment,
onboarding and evaluation process
● Collaborates with staff to understand volunteer and intern recruitment needs and
● Helps staff adhere to best practices for managing program volunteers
Benefits Management:
● Creates and manages systems relating to benefits, employee communication,
leave requests, scheduling and employment verifications
● Maintains and manages all aspects of benefits plan administration including
403b, Health Savings Accounts, Health Benefits and others
General Organizational Support:
● Attends organization-wide staff meetings and retreats
● Communicates in a positive and effective manner Conexión Américas’ mission
and programs to program participants and the general public
● Attends and provides support as needed to organizational events and fundraisers.

Position Requirements

Professional Qualifications and Personal Attributes:
● Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required, Master’s degree preferred
● 5+ years of relevant coaching and human resources work experience required
● Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills preferred, biculturalism preferred
● Clear and demonstrated communication, conflict management and coaching
skills required
● Strategic ability to drive organizational improvements and people decisions
● Knowledge of how to use systems to effectively support 50+ staff members
● Compassionate and adaptable spirit to work with people of diverse
socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds required
● Ability to manage multiple tasks and work in a fast-paced environment with
deadlines and strict timelines required
● Flexibility, creativity and capacity to work both independently and collaboratively
● Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database
management, social media and electronic communication platforms required
● Experience working in a nonprofit organizational environment preferred

will be able to work well both independently and as a member of a team. Job
