Position Description / Responsibilities
The Tennessee Department of Revenue is seeking a Director of Research in the Department’s central office in Nashville. The starting salary for the appointee will depend on the individual’s qualifications.
The Tennessee Department of Revenue is responsible for the administration of state tax laws and motor vehicle titling and registration laws.
The Department collects approximately 87% of state revenue, enforces the revenue laws fairly and impartially in an effort to encourage voluntary tax compliance, and apportions collections to the various state funds and local units of government.
The Department of Revenue’s Research Division:
. Conducts tax research and economic analysis for state and local government,
. Estimates potential revenue impacts of proposed legislation,
. Develops state tax revenue forecasts
. Evaluates comparative tax policies to determine fiscal effects
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
. Oversee the legislative fiscal note preparation process for the Department of Revenue,
. Oversee preparation of the state revenue forecasts for the State Funding Board
. Oversee monthly collections reporting
. Manage team of Statistical Analysts
Education & Experience
. Advanced degree in statistics or mathematics, political science, economics, or similar social science
. Experience equivalent to five years full-time professional work developing research methodology and/or directing statistical research.
. Experience in computer programming preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
. Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
. Advanced knowledge of mathematical and statistical principles and applications
. Advanced knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices
. Advanced skill utilizing software applications for
analysis and evaluation
