Position Description / Responsibilities
The Director of Service Learning develops and executes the Center’s strategy for service learning programs at the Martha O’Bryan Center. Service learning programs provide opportunities for emerging talent (often inexperienced in nonprofit work) to work and learn in programs across the Center, adding to our capacity to serve. Specifically, the Director of Service Learning recruits, orients and co-manages interns and service members across several service learning programs, including AmeriCorps. This role develops and manages all aspects of existing and new service learning programs, including grant management, human resources, and compliance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
AmeriCorps Grant Management
• Co-writes new and continued funding grant applications with development staff.
• Maintain program and service member data and submits progress reports.
• With program managers and data manager, creates systems to track outcomes and impacts of program as outlined in the grant.
• Maintains compliance with all AmeriCorps systems and regulations, including regular process and file audits.
• Maintains the Center’s AmeriCorps e-grants account, including enrolling, assigning, and exiting members.
• Creates and submits AmeriCorps documents, including, but not limited to, program binder and handbook.
• Ensures that the Center has successful AmeriCorps site visits.
• Serves as the liaison between the Center and AmeriCorps personnel. Represents the Center at all AmeriCorps events, including all Program Director meetings.
• Continually works to strengthen Martha O’Bryan’s partnership with AmeriCorps officials at state and federal level, as well as program leaders at sister agencies.
• Systematically ensures compliance with AmeriCorps contracts, and educates program leaders on grant requirements, including contract demands and associated regulations.
• In partnership with Finance, manage AmeriCorps budget and financial compliance, including close management of all purchasing expense reporting and coordination of audit procedures.
Member Development and Support
• Recruits, orients and trains all members regarding their service year (AmeriCorps and other service learning programs such as Nashville Epiphany Project and Sister Cities).
• Empowers AmeriCorps service members to promote specific AmeriCorps service ethic throughout the Center.
• Communicates regularly with program departments to create and implement coherent support strategies for each member, including arranging training, focus groups, mediation and needs assessments when needed.
• Meets with members regularly to ascertain any support needs, including career coaching and planning and referrals to external service or program providers, childcare vouchers, and reasonable accommodations.
• Schedules and manages AmeriCorps service events or programs throughout the year to build community and continuous learning.
• Supervises key program procedures, including member enrollment, exit, monitoring of hours, and verifying education award eligibility. Co-manage overall service member experience in partnerships with respective program leadership.
• Ensures smooth transition for members as they exit the program.
• Manages relationships and all administrative processes with the Center for all member enrollment and exit-related tasks, including but not limited to, Health & Dental Insurance, AD&D Insurance, Child Care Vouchers, and Forbearance Requests.
• Recruits, orients, and places interns in program areas through well-defined university relationships to increase productivity of the Center and meet the educational needs of the interns.
• Assures smooth onboarding process, including fingerprints and background checks are completed as required and workspace arrangements are carried out appropriately.
• Assures all paperwork for the educational institution is completed and also retained in Martha O’Bryan Center files.
• Tracks data on participants, learning outcomes and other data across all service learning programs. Use data to evaluates service learning programs and makes recommendations on service learning and talent strategy of the Center.
• Develops new programs for service learning at the Center in order to expand our service capacity and talent pipeline.
• Assists Chief Talent & Innovation Officer with assessing professional development needs and executing training and development opportunities for the Center as a whole.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree.
• five or more years of related experience, preferably in program leadership or human resources.
