Position Description / Responsibilities
East End Prep seeks an English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher and Gifted Teacher (serving both elementary and middle school students) to support our students’ growth and achievement. This role would spend half time supporting EL students and half time supporting gifted students as part of the Student Supports Team.
Roles and Responsibilities:
This teacher will be responsible for a caseload within our EL program as well as a caseload of gifted students and be responsible for those scholars’ academic growth and achievement.
This role includes:
EL Direct Services
- Teaches elementary or middle school EL students in small group or co-teaching settings; carefully plans for and executes this time with students and content teacher
- Communicates and collaborates with EL students and their families about these services
- Works aggressively toward clear goals for EL student success as demonstrated by WIDA assessments, content area assessments, and East End Prep’s goals
Gifted Teaching Responsibilities
- Collaborate with administrators and RTI coordinator to identify scholars in need of enrichment activities
- Assist with development of internal screener process for enrichment
- Organize, plan, and execute enrichment activities for scholars identified through screener
- Engage in on-going research, professional development, and self-paced learning to stay atop best practices in gifted education
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide suggestions for extension of grade level curriculum
- Provide direct services, including social-emotional needs, for scholars eligible for gifted education through their individualized education plan
- Provide family facing resources or events regarding education opportunities for academically talented scholars
School-Wide EL Supports
- Uses data to develop individualized learning plans for each EL student on their caseload
- Advises other teachers in using these plans to support their EL students across content areas
- Facilitates data-based reviews of EL student progress
Collaborative Leadership
- Works closely with the Special Education & ELL Coordinator to manage our EL vision, assessment, and compliance. This includes working as part of a team to:
- Coordinate and manage WIDA assessments
- Use data to craft goals and action plan to ensure East End Prep’s EL students are supported in transformative growth
- Refine and improve our EL program, building from a strengths-based perspective
- Establish strong, collaborative relationships with local EL leaders, including at MNPS
Position Requirements
Requirements
- An active TN teaching license with an EL endorsement required
- Special Education/Interventionist certification or coursework preferred
- Deep understanding of WIDA standards and assessments, or another set of EL standards and a willingness to learn WIDA
- Strong understanding of SIOP and/or another evidence-based framework for English language development
- Orton Gillingham trained preferred
- Familiarity with Gifted Eligibility criteria
- A demonstrated track record of meeting high expectations and accomplishing goals even in the face of obstacles
- Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines, with the ability to efficiently and effectively complete tasks
- A history of working well as part of a team, with a strong “whatever it takes” orientation
- Bachelor's degree, with an advanced degree strongly preferred
