Position Description / Responsibilities

POSITION SUMMARY

MOBC’s Family-Centered Coaches work directly with participants in a collaborative process to help identify and achieve children, caregiver, and family goals. Using Family Centered Coaching, a Family Coach strives to serve the whole family, keeping the participants, in the driver’s seat, and being aware that families are the experts on their own strengths and perceived challenges ahead. Coaches take part in MOBC’s trauma-informed care coordination as they engage with MOBC support systems as well as community partners to help families work towards their self-identified goals. The Family Coach is often the primary contact for the family, and is responsible for connecting with the family, assessing family needs, guiding family in goal setting around core areas of service, referring family to needed partners or providers in the community, and updating progress notes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Implements an individually and developmentally appropriate program of activities in line with the mission of the Martha O’ Bryan Center and the goals of the Family Success Network.

• Leads coached families in MOBC’s Trauma Informed Care Coordination, helping build a team of support that surrounds each family and guides them towards their self-identified goals.

• Provides holistic and comprehensive services to all Family Centered Coaching participants including intake assessments, goal setting, long-term action plan development, progress monitoring, advocacy and referrals.

• Maintains 30 enrolled families at a given time, with a goal of serving 35 families per year.

• Meets with family on a regular basis for 6-18 months on average.

• Conducts home visits as needed.

• Connects families with needed and available community resources.

• Actively makes effort to seek out and to maintain meaningful relationships with partnering agencies and community partners.

• Provides holistic and comprehensive services to all participants including: intake assessments, goal setting, long-term action plan development, progress monitoring, budgeting, advocacy and referrals.

• Ensures that all documents submitted on behalf of a participant are valid.

• Assists participants in maintaining meaningful relationships with partner organizations that influence household stability (such as, but not limited to landlords, employers, churches, and local businesses)

• Actively makes efforts to seek out and meet with other local community resources partners that could informally collaborate with the FSN to provide additional services and supports to those in the FSN.

• Helps administer FSN assessments and work toward FSN goals.

• Supports parenting education activities.

• Participates in structured family time activities.

• Participates in community groups that build social capital (i.e. Women’s Empowerment Group)

• Leads and participates in family workshops (developmental supports, pediatric health topics, nutrition, and healthy parenting strategies, etc.)


Position Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in fields of Human or Social Services or related field

• Two years of experience working with young children and families, particularly those living in poverty.

• Training in Trauma-Informed Care training, family-centered coaching, conscious discipline, and ACES preferred.

The above qualifications express the minimum standards of education and/or experience for this position. Other combinations of education and experience, if evaluated as equivalent, may be taken into consideration.

Knowledge and Abilities:

• Passion for working with young children.

• Ability to work in a chaotic, sometimes noisy environment.

• Strong interpersonal skills; excellent customer service skills.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding sensitive information.

• Strong organizational skills.

• Strong time management skills; uses time effectively; consistently meets deadlines.

• Computer literate including familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, database, desk top publishing software, email and the internet. Knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office.
