Position Description / Responsibilities

State Classification:  Statistical Research Specialist


The Division of TennCare invites applicants for a full-time position as a Statistical Research Specialist with the working title of Financial Performance Manager in the Division’s Fiscal Projects and Analysis Team. The Division administers the State’s Medicaid program which provides medical and behavioral health services to more than 1.3 million recipients. The Fiscal Projects and Analysis Team is responsible for data analysis and research, strategic project implementation, and support and implementation of process review and improvement. This position will provide a successful applicant with the opportunity to help shape the delivery of public sector health care in a dynamic, fast-paced professional environment.


The successful candidate will join a team of peers to help lead and implement projects of the highest priority to the Division and the State of Tennessee. Job duties may include analyzing and reporting on medical utilization and financial data, performing financial projections, supporting the budget design process, contributing to process improvement activities, researching and reporting on various healthcare issues, and engaging in other activities to support the Fiscal Projects and Analysis Team. The position will be a direct report to the agency’s Deputy Chief Financial Officer.


Position Requirements

The successful candidate will bring experience with health care management and an ability to work independently on highly visible projects from start to finish. The successful candidate will interact effectively and professionally with a wide range of individuals – from stakeholders and advocates to senior leaders in business and government. Ability to engage with data by recognizing patterns, performing complex analysis and projections, and effectively communicating observations and results to others is essential for success in this position. A graduate/professional degree or equivalent experience is required. Candidates should be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel software. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
