Position Description / Responsibilities

Job Title:          Literacy Partners Coordinator

Department:   Partnerships and Programs

Reports to:      Senior Partnership Manager

Hours:              Part-time, 15-22 hours per week

Wage:              $16/hr - $18/hr

FLSA status:     Non-Exempt


The Literacy Partners Coordinator is responsible for building a welcoming, supportive environment to ensure volunteer tutors feel confident in conducting the “Reading Partners Method”. The Coordinator will support elementary and middle schools throughout the district and will assist new volunteers and existing volunteers in an effort to increase volunteer retention. The Coordinator will also build relationships with businesses and organizations to recruit new volunteers to serve at Reading Partner schools. As an hourly employee, the Coordinator is scheduled to work up to 22 hours each week.  Should responsibilities require working more hours in order to achieve desired results, the Coordinator must communicate in advance with the supervisor to gain permission for the extra work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Coordinates assignment of students with volunteers and MNPS staff

·         Attends regular training sessions to become highly effective in the Reading Partners Model­­­­ in order to provide ongoing support to volunteer tutors. The Coordinator may also be assigned a roster of 2-4 students to tutor

Minimum Requirements

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·         Highly organized with a strong work ethic and a ‘can do’ attitude

·         Enjoys working with children and with volunteers

·         Creative problem-solver

·         Superior interpersonal skills; ability to effectively interact with PENCIL staff, partners, volunteers and other community stakeholders

·         Computer skills must include Outlook, Microsoft Word and basic Excel worksheets

·         Ability to collect, process, and interpret data

·         Reliable transportation required


Minimum:  Associates degree with a Bachelor’s degree preferred

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will have no supervisory responsibilities other than volunteers

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.  The employee is required to stand, walk, climb and balance.  The work environment characteristics are representative of those necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
