Position Description / Responsibilities

As the backbone agency for the Tennessee Alliance for Economic Mobility (TAEM), a new public-private partnership compromised of 32 organizations, the Martha O’Bryan Center is now hiring positions that will be critical to the collaborative’s success. Through a three-year $25 million investment from the Tennessee Department of Human Services, TAEM will reimagine how to support families in moving out of poverty and into opportunity. Across 7 counties, TAEM will support 900 families in moving beyond the benefits cliff—the point when families abruptly lose their benefits due to often nominal increases in income (think: just a few dollars more per hour), which leaves families worse off financially when they increase their income. In making the most fiscally responsible decision for their families, many limit their potential by not pursuing increased earnings or education in response. Through an innovative transitional benefit, financial counseling, family-centered coaching, wrap-around supports, and equitable access to employment and education pathways, TAEM will demonstrate a new way forward for the Tennessee safety net, thus creating a scalable statewide solution that incentivizes employment and increases family self-sufficiency.

The TAEM Therapist and Wellness Navigation Specialist provides therapy to TAEM participants, updates and communicates available and affordable county-level wellness resources to county-based navigators, and works closely with county-based navigators to ensure best practices in administration of physical and mental health and wellness supports. This is a full time, regular position, located at the Martha O’Bryan Center. This position reports to the TAEM Capacity Building Senior Manager.
Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Provides therapy directly to TAEM participants and works closely with county-based navigators to ensure best practices in administration of physical and mental health and wellness supports.
- Serves as navigator’s primary health and wellness contact and informational resource.
- Advises County-Level Navigators in best practices related to:
- Linking TAEM families with health and wellness services, through referrals to other medical clinics, facilities, and community agencies.
- Facilitating referrals between primary care and subspecialists; advocating for needed services.
- Establishes positive, trusting rapport with clients and meets with them regularly to provide counseling, treatment and adjust treatment plans as necessary
- Diagnoses and treats mental health disorders and create individualized treatment plans according to patient needs and circumstances.
- Engages in Care Coordination sessions, helping provide content level expertise.
- Creates, updates, and communicates a list of available and affordable county-level wellbeing activities at least once per week.
- Provides small group, virtual, and one-on-one programming to educate county-based navigators and families on best practices with caregiver and children, nutrition, wellness, and mental health.
- Prepares marketing materials, conducts presentations, and actively makes effort to seek out and to maintain meaningful relationships with health and wellness providers.
- Collaborates with health/wellness providers to educate and promote family nutrition & wellbeing.
- Works at county-level to participate in preexisting or create new collaborative efforts to build awareness, increase funding and capacity, and leverage greater resources toward health and wellness. Chairs/co-chairs the Health and Wellness Working Group
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or related field.
- Clinical license in TN (LCSW, LPE, LMFT, etc.)
- Three or more years of experience working with young children and families, particularly those living in poverty.
- Experience and training in trauma-informed care, family-centered coaching, conscious discipline, and ACES.
- Training in trauma-cognitive behavioral therapy and child-centered play therapy.
- Non-profit experience preferred.

- Regular regional travel within Middle Tennessee (up to 60%).
