Position Description / Responsibilities

The TDOT Asset Management Division is responsible for developing an asset management culture within TDOT where asset data is used to drive financial investment decisions that keep the infrastructure in a state of good repair and extends the service life of the asset. The Asset Management Director will collaborate with the Chief Engineer of Program Delivery to develop systems that collect consistent, transparent, and repeatable data that can be used to extend the service life of the DOT transportation assets and work with each functional discipline to set targeted investment expenditures and performance goals that will ensure TDOT meets the expected performance goals.

The TDOT Asset Management Director reports to the Assistant Chief of Program Delivery. This position will lead the department and this team through the re-engineering of the asset management processes within TDOT and implement a statewide asset management program. This program focuses on the complete lifecycle of an asset, determines what asset data should be collected, how the asset data should be collected, and how financial resources will be allocated to ensure that this lifecycle approach is most efficiently and effectively delivered within TDOT.

Position Requirements


The minimum required knowledge, skill, and abilities to satisfactorily perform the job duties are acquired through graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and ten (10) years of related transportation engineering and management experience. At least five (5) years of supervisory experience and a Professional Engineering License is required.

Candidates should have a strong and broad foundation in transportation engineering, asset management, data management, data analysis, and program funding and possess an extensive understanding of transportation projects.

Qualified candidates should be able to demonstrate skills in communication, team building, delegation, decision-making, and time management.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to resolve conflicts, coach and motivate others, build high-performing teams, and create a culture of accountability, collaboration, and accomplishment.

Qualified candidates should also be familiar with human resource management related to hiring, training, mentoring, and discipline.
