Position Description / Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY:

Experienced rural healthcare leader with the expertise and relationships to advise THA staff and members on policy and regulatory matters impacting small and rural hospitals in Tennessee. This position serves as THA’s primary staff liaison to 65 acute-care small and rural hospitals and coordinates technical assistance to these facilities on a variety of operational, financial, and regulatory matters. The role also oversees the programs of the Tennessee Center for Health Workforce Development (TCWD), a non-profit, wholly owned subsidiary of THA that provides incentives for healthcare workers to practice in rural and underserved communities in Tennessee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

OTHER DUTIES:

1. Coordinates with THA VP of Financial Policy regarding the distribution of TennCare CAH payments.

2. Coordinates with THA AVP of Member Services on hospital trustee development programs.

3. Manages periodic distribution of DUI Interlock funds.

4. Serves as the Association’s representative to multiple external organizations with a rural focus.

Position Requirements

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS NEEDED TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THE JOB:

1. Education requirement:

Bachelor’s degree required. Graduate degree preferred.

2. Experience requirement:

10 years of professional employment experience in healthcare, rural development, or related field. Experience in hospital management and/or public administration desired.

SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THE JOB:

1. In-depth understanding of rural hospital or healthcare operational, financial, regulatory, and policy challenges.

2. In depth knowledge of and/or connection to rural Tennessee.

7. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

8. Must have excellent presentation skills.

9. Must have the ability to take complex issues and explain them in an appropriate manner based on the knowledge level of the audience.
