Davidson, Williamson among top 10 counties for wage growth

Davidson and Williamson counties are among national leaders for job growth, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal.

"But in places from Music City to the Chicago suburbs to the California coast, wages are growing much faster. Weekly wages grew 4 percent or better in 44 of the 342 U.S. counties with at least 75,000 jobs, according to Labor Department data released Wednesday. Wages in Davidson, Tenn., the county that includes Nashville, rose 5.5 percent. Pay in Williamson, Tenn., just to the south, rose 5.2 percent. Williamson led the country in job growth, with employment growing 6.5 percent."

Analysts at personal finance website WalletHub.com completed a study comparing the 100 largest U.S. MSAs across 10 key metrics indicating friendliness toward female entrepreneurs. The Nashville MSA ranks No. 1.

The data analyzed in the study ranges from average revenue growth of women-owned businesses to presence of women’s business centers to industry variety for women-owned firms.

America's Leading EDCs

The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce was named to Global Trade magazine's list of the top economic development corporations in the nation.

"Nashville may receive more attention for its eponymous TV show and honky-tonk establishments, but Music City has emerged as a global leader in commerce. The city, which is home to international brands Under Armour and Amazon, saw exports surge 10 percent, year-over-year, to a record $9.6 billion in 2014 - a volume largely attributable to the efforts of the NACC. The chamber also helped 154 companies relocate or expand in Nashville last year, with nearly 28 percent of the new jobs created through foreign direct investment."

Nashville among top cities for STEM salaries

Research by personal finance website SmartAsset.com ranks Nashville fifth out of the top 25 metros for STEM salaries nationwide. Nashville leads all cities in the ranking with a 5.3 percent income growth for STEM workers in 2014 – more than three times the national rate.

East Nashville's Eastwood named No. 2 hottest neighborhood in U.S.

An East Nashville neighborhood was named the second-hottest neighborhood in the country by a real estate firm.

Redfin, which bills itself as a next-generation real estate broker, predicted Eastwood would be the second hottest neighborhood for real estate in the country this year, just behind Chicago’s Ukrainian Village, based on affordability and charm, Redfin said on its website.

The Hottest U.S. Cities for 2016

Nashville is on Business Insider's list of the hottest American cities for 2016. To compile this list, they looked at job growth, population growth, affordability, livability, and the health and well-being of each city's residents. They also considered each city's "coolness" factor.

"Nashville may be known for its country-music scene, but these days the Southern city is much more than just a music town. It's becoming a focal point for the auto and health care industries. The area is home to more than 300 health care companies and has more than 30,000 jobs in the auto industry."
