New research published by personal finance website SmartAsset.com cites Nashville as one of the best U.S. metros for high-paying jobs in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).

In their second annual study of the top cities for STEM salaries, SmartAsset averaged typical pay for the three overarching STEM job categories, as defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics: computer and mathematical occupations; architecture and engineering occupations; and life, physical and social science occupations. The study also takes into account the growth in pay from 2013 to 2014 (the most recent year for which data is available).

The study ranks Nashville fifth out of the top 25 metros for STEM salaries nationwide. Nashville leads all cities in the ranking with a 5.3 percent income growth for STEM workers in 2014 – more than three times the national rate.
