Through the 12 zoned Academies of Nashville schools, students have a choice of 35 different career academies. More than 400 community partners support the academies.

At Pearl-Cohn High School, students have the choice of participating in one of two different career academies. The first is the Academy of Entertainment Industry where they can choose to pursue pathways in audio or visual production. The second is the Academy of Health Science and Personal Care where they can pursue pathways in either therapeutic services or cosmetology. In addition to being apart of the Academies of Nashville, Pearl-Cohn is one of four New Skills Ready High Schools with a focus on seamless postsecondary transitions, high quality pathways, closing racial equity gaps, and providing real-life work experiences.

Joya Lewis, a senior at Pearl-Cohn who is enrolled in the health science pathway, currently participates in MNPS’s Work-Based Learning Program at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital. Through this paid, for-credit capstone, she receives hands-on learning with experiences like taking vitals, monitoring blood pressure, and doing EKGs. ‚”I think Pearl-Cohn is a really great school,” she says. ‚”You just have to put in the effort. The opportunities are here, and they’re giving you the resources and anything you might need to go wherever you want to go.”
