As Nashville business leaders, we know how important it is to provide tools to help tomorrow’s leaders succeed. At Bank of America, the Student Leaders® program has been part of our ongoing commitment to youth employment and economic mobility in Nashville since 2004. Our mission is to help prepare a diverse pipeline of community-minded young students to be successful in the workforce through leadership training and work experience.
Now is the time for the next group of Nashville area students to serve, inspire, and change our community. The 2024 application for Bank of America’s Student Leaders paid internship program is open through January 17.
Selected students will participate in an eight-week paid internship with the Oasis Center where they will experience first-hand the critical role nonprofits play in addressing the needs of the youth in our community. Last summer, the four Student Leaders co-lead some of the Oasis Center’s most dynamic summer youth programming that included engaging first-generation immigrants and refugee youth with their community, assisting Nashville high school students with identifying and understanding a path following graduation, and providing programming at the ‚”Just Camp” dedicated to creating a community for LGBTQ youth.
The summer culminates with a week-long, all-expense paid leadership summit in Washington, D.C. where 300+ Student Leaders from across the country will delve into how corporations, nonprofits, government and individuals intersect in impacting changes across their community and beyond.
‚”Being a Student Leader was an amazing experience,” Cayden Leslie, a 2023 Bank of America Student Leader and Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet High School student said. ‚”I was able to learn how nonprofits operate, how the United States government functions, and how to be a successful leader in all environments.”
‚”Having the opportunity to be a Nashville Student Leader was one of the most beneficial things I’ve done in my high school career,” Calyssa Lowe, a 2023 Bank of America Student Leader and Blackman High School student said. ‚”The Student Leaders program is not only an internship that looks amazing on my resume, but it also gave me the opportunity to meet so many new people throughout the Bank of America organization and create connections outside of the bank as well.”
The quickly approaching winter break is a perfect time for teens to use their downtime to explore work experience opportunities like Student Leaders. I hope you will share this opportunity with community-minded high school juniors and seniors that would make great candidates.
