April 30th kicks off Small Business Week, and what better way to celebrate the value small businesses bring than to highlight our Nashville Chamber members! Throughout the week, we’ll feature small businesses that are strengthening the region’s business network and also giving back to their communities.
Today’s spotlight features JHR Photography, a veteran-owned photography studio that provides a one-of-a-kind photography experience to one-of-a-kind people.
1. What is your business’s mission and how long has it operated in Middle Tennessee?
I am Jayson Rivas, owner of JHR Photography. My company was established in 2017 with the sole intent of delivering a one-of-a-kind photography experience to one-of-a-kind people. Our mission is to use our God given talents in photography, art, and business everyday in order to positively impact the community by investing in youth sports and education programs.
After 21 years of service as a Green Beret in the US Army, and more than 15 years of experience in combat, action, sports, and technical photography, I opened my first studio in Clarksville. My intent is to continue to positively impact our community by investing in others. Much like the Special Forces values, I believe that success comes through integrity, selfless service, empowering others, and producing uncompromising quality and value while making friends and having fun along the way.
2. For people who haven’t visited your business yet, what should they know about JHR Photography?
We go beyond the photos. Our focus is on building relationships through enjoyable photography experiences, but it’s more than that. As a veteran and business owner I understand the importance of quality photography and a strong network of people to support you along the way. We are part of that support network.
3. What is your favorite part about being a small business owner in the Nashville region? What can you tell us about the small business community here?
The best part of owning a small business in Middle Tennessee is the community. The area is growing fast and thriving and the entrepreneurial spirit here is contagious. There are so many opportunities for people to start and grow their hobbies and passions into successful businesses. We love to be a part of that, all the way from students in high school to veterans transitioning to civilian life, people are investing in this community and we are right in the middle of it.
4. How can your fellow Chamber members and other Middle Tennesseans best support local small businesses?
Besides becoming customers and clients, the best way to support small businesses is through referrals. We all know someone who provides an excellent product or service that people need, so its important to send people their way. And if you want to go a step further, write a review and share your positive experience. Those types of engagements are gold for growing small businesses.
