Position Description / Responsibilities

Internship Summary:

The primary purpose of the internship program at The Nashville Food Project (TNFP) is to provide meaningful, hands-on experience with the social media channels and brand marketing of a nonprofit organization. TNFP aims to provide practical experience and portfolio-quality opportunities while supporting all aspects of the organization’s mission to cultivate community and alleviate hunger in our city. Interns should expect to learn about general non-profit operations, the local food movement, food insecurity, and logistics around cooking and serving community meals, and reducing food waste through food recovery.

Internship Responsibilities & Goals:

  • Planning: Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Manager (MCM) to develop social media strategy, tactics, and a content calendar based on organizational priorities.
  • Content creation: Create, schedule, and post content on social media channels including Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn that roll up to social media strategy, marketing campaigns, brand messaging, and organizational priorities.
  • Photography and videography: Capture TNFP’s work by taking original photos and videos. This involves logistics including building relationships, getting permissions, scheduling, and follow up.
  • Community engagement: Strategically interact with accounts TNFP follows, building community and fostering positive relationships online.
  • Performance analysis: Establish a regular cadence of tracking social media metrics, analyzing data, identifying trends to improve performance, and reporting.
  • Innovation: Find novel ways to repurpose recent archival photos and videos.
  • Brand consistency: Ensure social media content aligns with the organization’s brand identity and messaging.
  • Relevancy: Be passionate and current about the latest social media trends and best practices.
  • Learn about TNFP’s various partners and programs, and how our work factors into alleviating hunger in Nashville.
  • Other duties may include marketing, communications, and events related tasks.

Position Requirements

Internship Requirements:

  • Pursuing a degree in social media, marketing, communications, graphic design or related field (recent graduates also welcome)
  • Available for ten weeks between May 2025 – August 2025, for 15-20 hrs a week. Internships can begin on a rolling basis based on school schedules and availability
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills – externally and internally – including written, verbal, and visual communication
  • An interest in non-profit operations, community building and/or alleviating hunger
  • Bi-weekly check-ins with mentors and program supervisors to achieve set goals
  • Ability to communicate via Slack/text/email/video conference with supervisors; ideally skill set includes experience in Monday.com or similar work management software platform
  • Must have reliable transportation – internship requires both onsite and offsite tasks (including in our gardens, at community events, and other partner organizations)
  • Curiosity, flexibility and a sense of humor, not required but always welcome

 

Duration & Compensation:

As part of this placement, The Nashville Food Project provides:

  • Hourly compensation ($18 per hour) paid bi-weekly, for a ten (10) week internship. Interns should plan to work 15-20 hours per week.
  • Hands-on opportunities to learn and invest in non-profit management and the work of community food security, in both the administrative roles of an organization, as well as spending time with our Meals, Garden and Share teams.
  • Direct supervisory support throughout the course of placement.
